As women, we are deluged with images and ideas about our identity. Also, we inherit programming from our parents, family members and life events--all of which constitutes who we are. When we begin to live consciously as Christians, we add a little theology to the mixture. Perhaps it’s no wonder we need help sorting through the patchwork of life!
For me, help sorting through the confusion came in the form of a study called
Five Aspects of Woman: A Biblical Theology of Femininity
. In the author’s words,
“Five Aspects of Woman
is an attempt to provide ancient answers to today’s woman with a freshness which will renew them for today’s battles.” Five Aspects of Woman was originally designed as a gender studies course for a Bible College and requires about 5 hours weekly including class time.
The purpose of the course is to develop a theology of femininity to edify and ground committed Christian women in the Bible’s teachings about gender. When mastered, it serves as both a foundation and a framework with which to guard against error and free us to serve God more fully and joyfully in family, work and community.
The study has profoundly affected my understanding of myself and my relationships. I invite you to join a small group of women who wish to undertake this challenging discipleship journey for the next nine months. Please call me if you have questions.
This is a study which is currently in progress but will be offered again fall 2008.
